Our tips for saving energy at home

Our tips for saving energy at home

Saving energy has become a major issue for consumers, due to rising energy costs and growing awareness of the need to protect the environment.

Everyone has a role to play in the energy transition, and there are many simple and effective ways to reduce energy consumption at home.

6 tips for reducing energy consumption

Here are a few tips to help you save energy and reduce your energy bill:

Turn off unnecessary lights

One of the easiest ways to save energy is to make sure lights are only on when they're needed. Turn off lights when you leave a room, and use energy-efficient LED bulbs instead of incandescents.

Adjust your thermostat

Set your thermostat to maintain a comfortable temperature in your home, but adjust it to save energy when you're away from home or sleeping. You can also install a programmable thermostat to regulate the temperature automatically.

Avoid air leaks

Poorly insulated windows and doors can lead to heat loss, and therefore significant energy losses. Use window seals and door seals to prevent air leakage. You can also ensure that your windows and doors are well insulated by opting for new, adapted windows and doors. It's obviously an investment, but a smart one that will serve you well in the long term.

Save water

Hot water can consume a lot of energy, so it's important to save hot water. Install low-flow shower faucets to reduce water and energy consumption. Avoid leaving the water running unnecessarily.

Use energy-efficient electronic devices

Electronic devices consume energy even when they're on standby. Turn off electronics when not in use, and choose energy-efficient electronics when purchasing new ones.

Similarly, don't leave your computer or other electronic devices plugged in when you're not using them.

Favour "eco" modes

First of all, make sure you only run your washing machine and dishwasher when they are full. And when you start them up, put them on the economy program. The wash time is longer, but the water is heated less. Finally, try to avoid the tumble-dryer and air-dry your clothes.

In conclusion, saving energy is easier than you think. By adopting these energy-saving habits, you can considerably reduce your energy consumption and your energy bill.
