Shore fishing: New trendy outdoor activity
Cockles, clams, shrimps or periwinkles, the beaches from our establishments are ideal places to practice shore fishing in complete safety.
Shore fishing in Brittany is an ancestral practice well known. With each high tide, the Breton coast becomes the meeting place for shellfish and crustacean lovers.
Shore fishing is generally practiced as soon as the coefficient exceeds 70, which is called the spring tide period. For high tides, the coefficient must exceed 100.
The best fishing is done at the low water mark, about an hour before the end of the ebb tide, until an hour after the start of the ebb tide. Be careful, depending on the tidal coefficients, the sea can rise more quickly!
Fishing on foot from your Naéco Hostels living areas
Departing from our hostels, there are many little spots for shore fishing. Equipped with a bucket, a pair of boots, a windbreaker and something to scratch in the sand, you will find something to make yourself a little marine aperitif. Towards responsible fishing in Brittany
To be able to continue to practice this activity, it must remain responsible. For a safe fishing trip, it is important to learn about the sanitary quality of the fishing sites you frequent but also about the fishing and consumption bans.
As fishing is a regulated activity, care must be taken to respect the minimum catch sizes. We explain everything to you through some good practices to adopt.
Before fishing
- Find out about the sanitary quality of the shore fishing sites you frequent.
- Avoid going fishing after heavy rains
- Check tide times and see today's weather forecast
- Warn those around you and always carry a means of communication or signaling with you
While fishing
- Respect the fishing and consumption bans
- Fish away from port areas, river mouths and drainage systems
- Respect the authorized sizes and quantities of catch and use the right fishing tools.
- Regularly monitor the rising water and beware of fog, sunburn and falls
After fishing
- Eliminate shellfish that are dead, chipped or have a suspicious odor, store them in the refrigerator and consume them quickly after fishing, preferably the same day.
