In moving towards sustainable tourism, Naéco is committed to several axes in order to put in place various good practices, which allow our organisation to have a positive impact on the planet.
The circular economy is a form of economy in which we actively participate. You may not have heard of it yet...
What is the circular economy?
According to INSEE, it is "The organisation of economic and social activities using production, consumption and exchange patterns based on eco-design, repair, reuse and recycling, and aiming to reduce the resources used and the damage caused to the environment."
The circular economy works in a loop, abolishing the notion of "waste". Its objective is to produce goods and services to limit the consumption and waste of raw materials and non-renewable energy sources.
One person's waste is another person's resource!
The circular economy in the hotel industry
The hotel industry is an activity that can have a strong impact on the planet. That's why more and more hotels are implementing various actions to reduce their carbon footprint.
These include: installing smart energy sensors, reducing plastic packaging in bathrooms (soap, etc.), reducing printing of paper and flyers, offering local products, offering not to wash sheets and towels every day, and many more.
Adopting a circular economy is an integral part of this ecological system. The aim is to save resources as much as possible, to refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle (and therefore repair whenever possible). We are talking about the 3Rs or 4Rs, which allow us to improve our practices in order to save resources.
The circular economy at Naéco Hostels
Ecological awareness is a strong value within our company. Our interest in and commitment to the circular economy fits directly into our CSR approach.
As part of our circular economy approach, we use second-hand furniture and reconditioned computer equipment in our establishments and we recover various materials to give them a second life.
Here is a list of more concrete examples that we have implemented in our establishments:
- The trays we offer at the breakfast buffet and on our eshop are made from the wood scraps from the beds of our dormitories in Le Pouldu.
- Our yoga terrace in Audierne was entirely made from wood salvaged from old mobile home terraces.
- The railings of our new terrace and building in Audierne were made from the wood of our old terrace
- Some of the frames were decorated with wallpaper scraps from the establishments
- Thanks to the wood of second-hand lodges recovered in the Vendée, several installations will be made in Audierne for the 2023 season: the yoga terrace will be covered and enlarged, a covered bike room, a covered picnic area for campers will be built and we will make gratings for the wooden huts as well as railings, ...
Going further with our association
We have also created our association NaécoResponsable, with the aim of creating, supporting and accompanying ecological and socially responsible projects in the localities where we are established.
Finally, we have also created an environmental charter within our establishments to guide our organisation in an eco-responsible approach by reducing our carbon impact.
